If you’re a woman and you have a few extra cavities, new research says you may be able to blame your hormones. According to the study in health day news… women have more dental health issues than men because of reproduction and fertility issues linked to female specific hormones. Researchers say the cumulative effect of estrogen's, including fluctuation at puberty and high levels during pregnancy promote cavities and dietary changes. They also say the chemical composition of saliva changes during pregnancy reducing salvia’s microbial capacity. Finally the study says women often crave high energy, cavity producing sweet foods during pregnancy …. helping to contribute to cavities.
