A new study says that eating a western diet

A new study says that eating a western diet, rich in fatty foods and salt, accounts for more than a third of heart attacks worldwide.  The Canadian study surveyed sixteen-thousand people in fifty-two countries and analyzed nearly six-thousand heart attacks. They found that people who eat a so-called “prudent” diet or one high in fruits and vegetables, cut their risk of having a heart attack by a third. But eating a western diet of cheeseburgers, fries, and few vegetables increased the risk of heart attacks by thirty-five percent.  They also found that that the so-called “oriental” diet loaded with tofu and salty soy sauce had no effect on heart attack risk.  Another new study looked specifically at the effects of the western diet in china.  They found that the adopted diet, along with the corresponding decrease in exercise, are contributing to an alarming health crisis.  More than a hundred-seventy-five-million chinese adults have been diagnosed with hypertension.
