A new study out of Germany suggests that washing your hands is significantly more effective for preventing and treating colds and the flu—than taking vitamin c or other antioxidants. Researchers say there is no proof that vitamin c or other antioxidants prevent infection. In fact they say taking large doses of these elements may even cause harm. The study says frequently washing your hands with regular soap and water and keeping your hands out of your face are your best bets in preventing the spread of germs. It also says people with respiratory infections can stop them from spreading by throwing away tissues immediately after using them and by not shaking hands with other people.
